The main research activities of Prof. Franco Merletti, Dr Lorenzo Richiardi and Dr Milena Maule at the Cancer Epidemiology Unit (CEU) of the University of Turin are the design, conduction and analysis of population- and hospital-based epidemiological studies on development and progression of chronic diseases. A molecular epidemiology lab is present at the CEU. Recent activities of the laboratory include:
1) studies on the role of DNA methylation in different cancer types and studies on HPV and HCV infection.
2) Implementation and evaluation of preventive programmes in cancer and development of statistical and epidemiological methods are also research areas of interest.
is a cancer epidemiologist with specific expertise in occupational, environmental and life-style exposures. Recent areas of interest include the aetiology (environmental and genetic) of head and neck cancer and of brain cancer.
Dr Lorenzo Richiardi’s current research interests focus on life-course epidemiology, the aetiology of different types of cancer, molecular markers for diagnosis and prognosis of prostate cancer, epigenetics, and causal inference.
Dr Milena Maule’s research interests are in population-based epidemiological studies of non-communicable diseases, mainly childhood cancer and diabetes, and methodological research on Bayesian methods in epidemiology.
