In the field of regenerative medicine stem cell therapy represents a great opportunity. In recent years there have been developed non-invasive techniques to monitor the survival of transplanted cells in the host and, therefore, the actual effectiveness of therapy. However, for the future clinical purposes, translation is necessary to elucidate the possible interferences of such methods with replicative capacity and stem cell differentiation and to demonstrate the absence of perturbations in their genetic stability.
The objectives of this project are: 1) the study of silica fluorescent nanoparticles biosecurity produced for imaging of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), the most used in regenerative medicine; 2) the monitoring of marked human MSCs in vitro on tridimensional scaffolds and in an ex vivo model of myocardial infarction.
